My original Octo Coal design made record sales as a soft good for DBH. After doing a shizen-ton of stenciling post Fall Fashion Week I decided to carry this beloved cephalopod design over to a few various media. The piece below dubbed Red Velvet Octopus is a stencil done on top of hot red inks on wood panel. Getting the contrast just right and using the center point as a dark area allows for this 2D image to pop off the canvas like a vintage velvet painting. The blend of black, red, and fire orange sets the design elements to appear 3 dimensional. This is the beginning of a new stencil series that will be creeping out over the next few months.
