As summer approaches, the countdown to Beery’s 2014 collection ticks on. Although he likes to keep the bulk of his new work concealed, Beery recently talked with Skinny Buddha to reflect on what has been, what is and what is to come.

Producing through a variety of mediums, Beery’s craft varies from commercial art to gallery art to street art. To say the talented artist wears a lot of hats is an understatement.

“It’s like riding a 10-speed bike through various terrain,” Beery explained.

On a daily basis he spends 10-12 hours working on projects that range from personal goals to commissioned pieces. According to Beery, there are usually quite a few jobs taking place at once. But that’s exactly how he likes to keep his business: diverse and consistent.

Not to say Beery doesn’t appreciate his corporate clients, like Microsoft, but he told Skinny Buddha that musicians are his ideal gig. He said it’s mainly because they understand the creative process and respect the element of development.

“Working with musicians is my favorite,” Beery said. “They just get it.”

From creating artwork for Bang Tango, Public Enemy, NOC, Stone Temple Pilots and K Sos, Beery has definitely gotten his feet wet when it comes to credibility.

Beery said he has been drawing since he could pick up a pen and when asked why he does what he does, his reply was simple: “I can’t stop.”

In addition to his need to create, the motivation behind his work comes from the desire to maintain and grow the career he has established.

“There’s something inside everyone that pushes them to do what they do,” Beery told Skinny Buddha. “That something for me is art.”

Beyond the career aspect and the inner fire that makes Beery’s genius distinct, a search for enlightenment roars on. You see, for Beery, art isn’t just about expression or creation, it’s about self discovery.

Beery told us that he hopes to look back when he’s older and be able to see a definition of himself through his varied works.

“I hope to learn something about myself that I didn’t know and enjoy the process in the meantime,” he said.

For now, Beery is working on the premiere of his 2014 collection, which he was pretty tight-lipped about. He did reveal that the idea is nostalgic and “bleeds pop culture elements from my childhood.”

Annually, Beery spends a season creating a collection that he showcases mid-year. The premiere show for 2014, which is on track to take place sometime this summer, will be set in Seattle.

Beery is also working on a skateboard line and screen prints for a Stephen King tribute show in Los Angeles.

Skinny Buddha is a proud carrier of Beery’s work, including the tee featured in this photo series.

Beery wanted to give a shoutout in this blog as well:

“Much love to my Skinny Buddha crew and I look forward to sharing more pieces of my passion very, very soon.”
