For the screen print show Dead Rock Stars at LTD. Gallery Seattle I’ve gone back to my undead musician repertoire and pulled out a brutal version of the Pacific Northwest’s martyr of grunge. Respectively one of American music’s most revered front men, Kurt Cobain and his story will forever be legend in the annals of 1990’s rock/grunge chapter.
Dually an artist and primed rebellious young teenager Nirvana was a critical link to channeling the frustrations and whiplash attitude that was inevitable in my pre-adulthood life. To this day I still go back to the banks of holy denim and plaid river to ruminate on the vicious bygone teen-rager days. The ghosts of grunge are forever indelible noises floating in the tailwinds of my own maturity as a creative who drives deeper into the meaning of life’s hurdled obscurities and continues to nurture a wizardry of oddities.
Beery Method has pulled 10 prints from the limited first edition 20 print run. All prints are $50 and come hand signed/numbered. These will sell out quickly. If you’d like to purchase one directly from me I will include a personal note to the buyer written on the backside. EMAIL BEERY for purchase inquiries.
A limited edition of 20 hand pulled 5 color screen print posters were created for authentic and rare original collector’s fancy. Printed on heavy stock raglan watercolor paper, the 18×24 posters are textured, bold, and heavy. Also included is the hand embellished artist signature and edition stock numbers on the reverse side. Hailing to the concept that reflects the satirical style Cobain wrote his lyrics, the poster adorns the title All Apologies. Ironically the song which Cobain dedicated to his wife, Courtney Love and daughter, had nothing to do with his family or the dire situations that ensued leading up to his suicide. As a fan of the music and one who still stands in the void of his departure I felt that utilizing the song title as a farewell title to the piece were appropriate.
Zombie Cobain is essentially a reformation of the death-obsessed character that the songwriter poured from on stage and in the media. Erect with a cigarette clenched between fingers and a passionate glare, the undead grunge king prevails in detail. A pistol cocked slightly to his mouth (despite using a shotgun in suicide) shows the attitude and undying beastialty that was worn throughout his short lived career. Clenched between his teeth is a bullet. The regurgitated facilitator of annihilation sits locked in his jaw and reads Drain You. Another homage to a breakthrough B-side title produced on the ep single Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Lastly the reference of splatter to the left of his head illustrates Nevermind. Alternative rock’s Diamond title of all time record sales echoes as a reminder to die hard fans today at a movement in rock history so prolifically instigated and left prematurely shattered in the wake of an era where musician’s struggled to find comfort in fame. All Apologies | Undead Cobain is a tribute to the reckless age of grunge and stays loyal to the ideology that heroes and retrospective effects will never die.
