Mixing up a little oils and acrylics on one finely stained piece of wood can be a challenge. When not working on a primed or gessoed surface the wood just wants to suck up all the moisture. This makes painting with oils a lot like painting with acrylics. My oil stylization is kinda fluffy, muted, and has a melting feel to it. I wanted to juxtapose my media styles by infecting the piece with a tightly rendered green-glowing acrylic skully. The contrast and complementary color palette makes this dripping skull pop off the umber backdrop of wood stain. This panel was also a part of the Legion of Doom show at Deli October 2010.
